Sierra is an AI engineering studio and startup incubator. We build products for customers and launch new
companies.
We are a fast growing company sustained by its own profits, not VC hype and cash. Sierra was founded in 2021 by the former founders and core R&D team of a technology company in the US.

Sierra’s mission is to support founders and business leaders on their hero's journey, starting from a bold idea, through real challenges, to a successful product. LLMs have massive potential to transform the world, but
many organizations don’t know where to start.

Our goal is to guide them along the path to an AI-first future while respecting the human experience.

Sierra Studio is based in Los Angeles, but we’re a fully remote company. We have teammates working from São Paulo, Vitória, Belo Horizonte, Florianópolis, and many other cities.
Once a year, we come together for a week-long offsite to reconnect, eat amazing food, and vibe code crazy ideas in hackathons.

Atividades e Responsabilidades

As a Lead AI Engineer, you’ll lead engineering for one or more AI initiatives at Sierra. You’ll architect the stack, prompt engineer LLMs to solve real world problems, and work with your teammates to do whatever it takes to ship great products. You’ll work closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to take products from idea to production. As an early employee at a startup, you’ll also be part of creating our culture!

- Startup clients: Work with a startup founder to build the MVP of their idea
- Enterprise clients: Help enterprise companies reinvent existing products and internal processes with LLMs
- Internal projects: Build an internal AI tool to transform our own workflows
- Hiring: Help us grow our team and interview future candidates
- AI Roadmap: We have an internal AI roadmap where anyone can add ideas to the backlog. The ideas range from building internal tools for Sierra to learning about deeper topics in AI engineering. Our AI engineers have time reserved each week to work on the ideas that excite them most

Requisitos

🔎 Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a lead engineer who has experience building great products with LLMs, whether that’s at work or on personal projects.

✨ LLMs & AI

You’ve built something cool with LLMs, whether it was for work or a personal project

Experience with prompt engineering, RAG, and agentic patterns

Experience building evals for LLM-powered products

Growth mindset: Ability to quickly learn new skills in the AI space

Strong curiosity about AI and the impact of LLMs

🧑‍🚀 Leadership

Ability to lead the technical direction of products from idea to production

Ability to work effectively with product, design, and other partners

Ability to contribute to multiple projects at the same time

Very strong written + verbal communicator in English

💻 Software engineering

Backend: Either Python (e.g. FastAPI) or TypeScript experience is nice to have!

🔥Bonus skills – nice to have!

Experience with finetuning LLMs

Staying up to date with latest research papers in AI

Uses AI tools (Cursor, Claude Code, etc) to supercharge your own coding workflow

You have interesting personal projects you can share with us!
